As a Company we are taking additional steps in the bid to reduce our energy consumption. As part of our pledge, we have secured a grant from the Lake District Foundation, the Low Carbon Lake District Programme, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, the Northern Powerhouse, and the European Union European Regional Development Fund. This has enabled us to successfully complete the installation of 47 x 375W PV panels, 3 x 8kw batteries and 6 x 7kw EV charge points, giving us 7 in total. The new hardware is all ‘smart’ and allows us to accurately monitor the energy we generate, use and store throughout the day at our head office at Penrith’s East Lakes Business Park.
By being able to monitor our energy usage, it will enable us to constantly identify areas in which we can improve our carbon footprint, with the aim to reduce this year on year with the implementation of new products and technology, stringent waste and recycling management and the monitoring of gas, electricity, fuel, and water usage, in the office and on site.
As a construction company we have recognised our need to make changes in the bid to protect our environment, we not only want to reduce energy consumption, but are keen to make changes in the bid to enhance and protect biodiversity. We intend to do this by maximising opportunities for biodiversity where appropriate, appointing ecological and biodiversity specialists when undertaking project specific biodiversity initiatives, as well as ensuring we are following and adhering to all guidelines within the Habitat and Species regulations.
Since the installation of our new solar panels, batteries and EV charging points, we have generated over 6000kWh of energy, and as a keen supporter of our local community and an established employer locally, we hope the implementation of these measures will set an example and help increase awareness surrounding the importance of becoming more sustainable.
We would like to express our gratitude to the Lake District Foundation, the Low Carbon Lake District Programme, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, the Northern Powerhouse, and the European Union European Regional Development Fund, for helping us on our journey for the future.
