On Thursday, students from Lakes College West Cumbria, visited our new Extra Care scheme being constructed in Workington.
The Year 1 and Year 2 T level Design Surveying students from the colleges’ construction department were invited onto site, gaining an insight into modern methods of construction.
Project Manager and Quantity Surveyor, Ian Martin, led the students through a series of demonstrations, explaining how the foundations were constructed, site investigations and drainage strategies.
A spokesperson from Lakes College said, “From a Quantity Surveying perspective, Ian has been invaluable in explaining to the T level students (some of whom want to be Quantity Surveyors) site management and sustainable solutions.”
It was great to be able to give the students within the local area the opportunity to gain a real understanding of construction, and how these developments come into fruition.
